2027: CEPEJ Organizes One Day Capacity Peace Building Workshop in Warri, Profers Early Warning and Early Response to Conflict Management

On Thursday 30 April, 2026, the CENTER FOR PEACE and ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE (CEPEJ) in Collaboration with WARRI PEACE COMMUNITY SUPPORT INITIATIVE AND DELTA STATE CIVIL SOCIETY FORUM Organizes One Day Capacity Peace Building Programme for Warri lndigenes and Residents Committee/Other Stakeholders on Conflict Management In Warri Federal Constituency.

The initiative is focused on training Warri residents on the importance of Early warning and Early Response to conflict management as well as the negative economic impact of conflict to families and communities during crisis.
The programme brought together members of the Warri Indigenous and Resident Peacebuilding Committee and other community youth leaders to address conflict management, early warning, and early response systems.

Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), High Chief Dr. Sheriff Mulade, said the initiative is aimed at equipping stakeholders with practical strategies to identify and prevent conflicts before they escalate, especially as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
He warned against the use of ethnic and religious sentiments by political actors, noting that peacebuilding is a collective responsibility. He emphasised the “three Cs” — communication, cooperation and coexistence, as key to sustaining peace.

Mulade further emphasized that development can only thrive in a peaceful environment, while calling on communities, traditional institutions, and security agencies to work together.
In her presentation, the first speaker, Mrs. Matha Onose noted that when there is conflict, it impedes development, increase inflation, destruction of lives and properties, loss of income, hunger, stealing and all manner of social vices in the society.
She stated that to sustain peace in the society, critical stakeholders are charged to keep talking and preaching peace to those in conflict without waiting for government, adding that one day those in conflict would resolve to surrender for peace.

While Dr. David Edovia speaking on Early warning and Early Response using the PIND’s Model. He highlighted any of the three levels of response including policy, advocacy and operational can be applied to solve conflict in the society.
The workshop ended with question and answer session, renewed call for unity, dialogue, and collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and development in Warri.
