Embracing Harmony and Unity on International Day of Peace

As the world observes the International Day of Peace, a day dedicated to promoting peace, harmony, and understanding among nations, communities, and individuals, the Executive Director and National coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Ambassador Chief Sheriff Mulade; Chief Anthony Okoro; Federal Road Service Commission (FRSC) Unit commander, Orero-okpe, FT Itimi; the Executive Director, Ideal Women Advancement Initiative Board and Board Director of Partners For Peace In Niger Delta, Pastor Mrs. Bridget Foh Affiah, Professor Philip O. Okolo of the Department of Political Science, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State. Nigeria; the chairman of Bursary and Scholarship Board, Mr. Shedrach Agidega; Pastor Edewor Egedegbe amongst others, have call on the Itsekiri, Urhobo and Ijaw ethnic nationalities put an end to looming crisis in Delta State and adopt peace.

The event is themed ‘Act Now For A Perfect World’ . The event host, Mulade, PhD, said the event’s theme is to take immediate action, to be proactive, effective, and to be responsible stewards of peace, urging stakeholders, community leaders and youths in the State, and Nigeria at large, not to give room for violence or be used to foment crisis. Rather, they should continue to endeavor to promote peace and peaceful coexistence among themselves. He appealed, particularly to the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic nationalities in Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State, to embrace peaceful coexistence among themselves devoid of divide-and-rule infiltrators and ethnic war mongers to allow Warri enjoy peace, beauty and development.

Amongst other powerful presentations at the event, a jaw-dropping lecture was given by Prof Okolo, who revealed the consequences of lack of peace, benefits and pathways to achieving it. In her remarks, Commander Itimi praised the efforts of Mulade and advised that individuals and stakeholders do same irrespective of tribes and religion.

Pastor Mrs. Bridget Foh Affiah, who started by quoting the words of Angelou Maya to do the best you can until you know better, proudly appreciated the host and CEPEJ for the great event, and revealed that she often tell her friends from other tribes not to allow tribal sentiment to destroy the future of theirs children.

Indeed, the World Peace Day serves as a poignant reminder of the collective aspiration for a more peaceful world and to further buttress this message, this eye-opening event also featured stage drama, recitation of poems by Mr. Godbless Eduviere and several games amongst others the reasons for a peaceful coexistence in the state and cash gifts were also given to winners of the games.
