.... Says Unity will Attract More Development
The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro Gbaran the 2nd has endorsed the Ijaw/Itsekiri peace and unity football cup fiesta, saying it will attract more development to the area.
The Gbaramatu Monarch made the call in his palace at Oporoza town in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State when the Local Organizing Committee led by Hon. Kenneth Nwamuocha paid him a courtesy call to inform and invite him as the Royal Father of the Day at the football tournament.
The Pere commended the initiator and sponsor of the unity football game, Comrade Mulade Sheriff and called for more programmes that will help to cement the cordial relationship between Ijaw and Itsekiri, and appealed to Ijaw and Itsekiri in the coastal areas of the Niger Delta Region to work for peace, promote and sustain peaceful co-existence in the area to attract more development.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of the LOC jersey to the King for his representative as a member of the Organizing Committee.
The initiator of the tournament, Comrade Mulade Sheriff thanked the Monarch for endorsing the game and encouraging peaceful co-existence among the ethnic groups in Delta State towards attracting development particularly to Ijaw and Itsekiri, and promised to build on the ongoing peace process.
Meanwhile, tomorrow Saturday, 16th November 2019, there will be a ceremonal football match at the opening ceremony between the defending champions of the inaugural edition, Teibejor, an Ijaw Community, and one of the host communities of the tournament, Ugborodo Community an Itsekiri town.
Ugborodo township pitch is the venue and Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, Deputy Governor of Delta State will perform the kick off at 12noon.
